After several sessions under downward pressure, the domestic coffee market unexpectedly recorded a clear upward trend. The increase in the day reached 3,900 - 4,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday, bringing coffee prices in key growing regions closer to the high levels seen at the end of February.
Domestic coffee prices today, July 8, 2026
In the former Dak Nong province, now part of Lam Dong province , coffee prices increased by 4,000 VND/kg, reaching 97,000 VND/kg. This is the highest price among the localities surveyed today.
Gia Lai also recorded a very strong increase, adding 4,000 VND/kg compared to the previous session, bringing the purchase price to 96,800 VND/kg. This price is only 200 VND/kg lower than the previous price in Dak Nong and shows that domestic purchasing demand is rapidly improving after a period of market stagnation.
In Dak Lak , the price of coffee today increased by 3,900 VND/kg, reaching 96,700 VND/kg. This is also one of the localities with the highest purchase prices in the Central Highlands region.
In Lam Dong, the price increased by 3,900 VND/kg, reaching 96,200 VND/kg. Although still the lowest among the surveyed localities, coffee prices in Lam Dong have significantly recovered from their previous decline.
Thus, in just one trading session, domestic coffee prices increased by nearly 4,000 VND/kg. The new price level of 96,200 - 97,000 VND/kg shows that the domestic market is reacting quickly to the strong fluctuations from the two international exchanges.
Coffee prices have returned to levels seen at the end of February.
In early February, domestic coffee prices peaked at 100,000 - 100,900 VND/kg. Subsequently, the market adjusted downwards by approximately 7,000 - 8,000 VND/kg towards the end of February, but still remained at a high level of 96,000 - 97,000 VND/kg.
From March to June, profit-taking pressure coupled with information about Brazilian supply caused coffee prices to enter a prolonged downward trend. At one point, domestic prices retreated to the 92,000-93,000 VND/kg range, about 4,000-5,000 VND/kg lower than at the end of February and nearly 8,000 VND/kg lower than the peak at the beginning of February.
With a surge of nearly 4,000 VND/kg in the July 8th trading session, coffee prices today have returned to the high levels seen at the end of February. This is a noteworthy development because the market only needed one strong upward session to almost completely erase the accumulated losses from the previous weeks.
World coffee prices today
On the world market, trading on July 7th saw very strong fluctuations after the previous explosive surge. The price of robusta coffee futures for July 2026 on the London exchange fell by 4.23%, equivalent to $172/ton, to $3,892/ton.
Robusta coffee futures for September 2026 delivery fell 4.25%, or $172 per ton, to $3,872 per ton. The November 2026 contract declined 4.19%, or $168 per ton, to $3,839 per ton.
On the New York exchange, the price of Arabica coffee futures for July 2026 fell 8.89%, losing 32.35 US cents/pound, to 331.6 US cents/pound. The September 2026 contract fell 9.24%, to 317.6 US cents/pound. The December 2026 contract fell 9.06%, to 305 US cents/pound.
According to Reuters, arabica prices fell sharply at the close of trading on July 7th, after a very strong increase the day before. Traders believe that the 16% increase in arabica prices on July 6th was amplified by short-covering by hedge funds, especially after the US Independence Day holiday.
El Nino continues to be a major variable for the coffee market.
Soft agricultural commodities such as coffee, cocoa, and sugar remain supported by concerns that El Niño could develop into a strong or very strong state. For robusta coffee, this phenomenon is typically detrimental due to higher temperatures and lower rainfall in Vietnam and Indonesia.
In Brazil, the world's largest producer of arabica coffee, El Niño could bring heavy rains, disrupting the harvest. This is why the market remains highly sensitive to weather information, even though world prices have just reversed sharply after a period of rapid increases.
Information from the National Federation of Colombian Coffee Growers shows that the country's coffee production in June increased by 43% year-on-year, reaching 1.3 million 60-kg bags. However, cumulative production for the first six months of the year still decreased by 10%, to 5.575 million bags, while exports decreased by 18%, to 5.23 million bags.
Regarding the domestic market, the sharp increase in coffee prices today, July 8, 2026, indicates a more active buying sentiment. If world prices continue to fluctuate significantly, the 96,000 - 97,000 VND/kg range may remain a closely watched price level in the coming sessions.
