MANILA, Philippines — Filipino travelers are increasingly seeking alternative holiday destinations, driving substantial growth for AirAsia Philippines' connecting flight services in 2026.
Passenger data released by the airline showed traffic between Manila and Almaty, Kazakhstan surged by 1,000 percent, the highest growth among the carrier's Fly-Thru routes.
Other destinations also posted notable growth, including Phnom Penh, Cambodia, which increased by 705 percent, Manila-Penang, Malaysia, by 50 percent, and New Delhi, India, by 43 percent.
The figures point to an emerging opportunity for Filipino travelers to discover more of Asia and beyond, supported by AirAsia's extensive network and Fly-Thru service, which connects passengers to multiple destinations through a single booking.
"It's exciting to see more Filipinos becoming open to exploring destinations they may not have considered before. Travel is not just about visiting the usual holiday spots anymore, it's about discovering new places, experiencing different cultures, and making more meaningful memories. The strong growth in Almaty is a good example of this changing interest," AirAsia President and General Manager Anna Victoria Lu said in a statement.
From the mountains of Almaty to the beaches of Maldives and Bali, more international adventures await Filipino travelers through AirAsia Fly-Thru connectivity.
The airline said passengers can fly from Manila to Almaty, Kazakhstan; Jaipur and New Delhi, India; Penang, Malaysia; the Maldives; Phuket, Chiang Mai, Thailand; Shenzhen, China; Yangon, Myanmar; Sarawak, Indonesia; Sabah, Malaysia and Sri Lanka.
From Cebu, travelers can discover more of Asia: Penang, Malaysia; Bali, Indonesia; Siem Reap, Cambodia; Hanoi and Da Nang, Vietnam; Singapore; Jakarta, Indonesia; Sri Lanka; and Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
For a limited time, AirAsia Philippines is offering its largest Fly-Thru sale from November 3 to November 9. The promotion provides Filipinos with expanded options to travel to destinations beyond Asia, with fares starting as low as P7,699.
